Our communities

Romanian Orthodox communities are spread across several regions of Ukraine, with a particularly significant presence in the Chernivtsi region and the Odesa region.
At present, there are approximately 130 communities in Ukraine with places of worship where services are conducted in Romanian. The overwhelming majority of these communities currently belong to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (headed by Metropolitan Onufriy). In the context of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, which began in 2022, some of these communities expressed a desire to belong to the Romanian Orthodox Church.
Thus, The Religious Organization “The Romanian Orthodox Church in Ukraine Religious Association” was established in 2024 through the association of the following Romanian religious communities:

1. The religious community “Saint John of Suceava” - Chernivtsi, Chernivtsi region (representative: Eugen Pătraș);
2. The religious community “Saints Peter and Paul the Apostles” - Komyshivka (Hagi-Curda), Odesa region (representative: Mihail Stegărescu);
3. The religious community “Saint Andrew the First-Called” - Reni, Odesa region (representative: Anatolie Curtev).
   

Unfortunately, for having the courage to openly identify as Romanians and Orthodox Christians, Mr. Eugen Pătraș, a lawyer, and Fr. Mihail Stegărescu, representatives of the principal Romanian communities in Chernivtsi and Odesa, were banned from entering the territory of Ukraine.
